ACR ScreenShield: On by Default for Every Player From Nov. 4, After a Review of 2 Million Hands

ACR Poker will turn on ScreenShield for every player on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The feature hides your tables from the screen-capture and screen-sharing methods it covers, and you can switch it off in Settings. The Winning Poker Network (WPN) announced the change Monday, Oct. 19, along with the results of a review of more than 2 million hands.

Quick summary

  • Nov. 4: ScreenShield goes on by default for every player on WPN, the network behind ACR Poker.
  • What it does: It hides your tables from the screen-capture and screen-sharing methods it covers. You see and play the game as usual.
  • Opt-out: Streamers, coaches and anyone who records sessions can turn it off on its own Settings page.
  • The review: WPN checked more than 2 million hands from players whose devices had MeshAgent, a remote-access program, and says it found no evidence of hole-card cheating on the network.
  • Next step: WPN is considering a ban on third-party software running alongside its client. Nothing has been decided.

What changes on Nov. 4

Until now, ScreenShield was on only for some players, such as those WPN found running remote-access software (see the timeline below). From Nov. 4, it will be on for everyone, according to ACR’s press release. The protection works in the background, and Gambling News notes that the game itself does not change.

You keep control. ACR says ScreenShield will appear in the poker client and on its own Settings page. If you need screen capture for streaming, session recording, coaching or content creation, you can turn it off yourself. That matters if you stream: according to PokerOrg, players with ScreenShield on can’t stream their tables on Twitch or Kick or take screenshots of their wins.

WPN is also studying a broader policy that could prohibit third-party software from running alongside the WPN client. ACR says no final policy has been adopted, and the review is weighing security against legitimate uses.

Why ACR is doing this now

The change follows the superuser scandal that hit high-stakes online poker in late September. Malicious updates to two third-party poker tools, Jurojin Poker and IntuitiveTables, allegedly installed remote-access software on players’ computers and exposed their hole cards. No poker client is believed to have been compromised. We covered the case, and how to protect your computer, in our report on the online poker superuser scandal.

What WPN’s review found

According to the release, WPN’s Game Integrity team reviewed more than 2 million hands from players whose devices had MeshAgent detected. It found no evidence that any player was using hole-card knowledge on the network.

About 200,000 of those hands were played by Paul Gregg, a player whose name had circulated publicly in the high-stakes community. WPN says it found no evidence that Gregg could see another player’s hole cards or used hole-card knowledge while playing on WPN.

WPN says it closed Gregg’s account separately. According to WPN, that was a separate risk-management decision, based on what it learned in its investigation and from other online poker operators, and not a finding that hole cards had been seen on WPN. The network also says it has shared with other operators how this kind of protection can be built. These are WPN’s own findings, and they have not been independently verified.

What it means for players in the US

If you play on ACR from the US, ScreenShield turns on automatically on Nov. 4. You don’t need to do anything, unless you stream, record your sessions or share your screen with a coach. In that case, open Settings and turn ScreenShield off before you start.

No single feature covers every risk. In this case, the attack came through software on the players’ own computers. Download poker tools only from their official sites and check for remote-access programs you didn’t install. These steps lower the risk, but they don’t remove it. Our seven tips to protect your poker account walk you through the basics.

ACR Poker accepts players from most states, but not from Washington, Kentucky, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada or New Jersey. It is an international room, not licensed by any US state, so state consumer protections don’t apply. Read our guide to real-money online poker in the USA to see how the rules work where you live. At international rooms, most US players deposit with crypto, such as Bitcoin or USDT. See the poker rooms that accept Bitcoin.
