Online poker in the USA: the rules and the rooms that accept US players
In the US, online poker depends on the state you live in. A few states license their own poker sites; in most others there is no state-licensed site, and many players use international rooms. Here is how it works and which of our partner rooms accept US players.

How online poker works in the US
Federal law. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA, 2006) restricts how banks and payment companies handle gambling payments. It is aimed at payments and operators, not at individual players.
The states decide. Nevada, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia run licensed online poker markets, and some of them share player pools. A few other states have passed laws more recently. Some states, such as Washington, have laws that prohibit online gambling.
International rooms. In states without a licensed poker market, many players use international rooms that accept US players. These rooms are not licensed by any US state, so state consumer protections don’t apply to them.
Which partner rooms accept US players
ACR Poker, BetOnline Poker and Everygame Poker accept US players, each with its own list of excluded states. ACR doesn’t accept Washington, Kentucky, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada or New Jersey; BetOnline doesn’t accept New Jersey. Everygame sets its own rules. Each room checks your location when you sign up.
Deposits and withdrawals
US banks often block card payments to gambling sites, so crypto is the most common way to deposit at international rooms. Bitcoin and USDT are accepted at most of the rooms above. Before you send, check the network in the room’s cashier and start with a small amount. See our guide to Bitcoin poker sites.
Taxes
Gambling winnings are taxable income under federal law, wherever you win them. Keep records of your deposits, withdrawals and results, and talk to a tax professional about your situation.
