  • Who can play: B.C. residents 19 and older, only while they are in British Columbia.
  • Games: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, stud and draw games, with cash tables, Sit & Gos and tournaments.
  • Cashier: Interac e-Transfer, cards and PayPal in; bank transfer out, with up to three business days of processing.
  • What could change: BCLC is one of the lotteries in a Supreme Court of Canada case on shared player pools, heard Oct. 7 with judgment reserved.

Does BCLC have online poker?

Yes. BCLC has offered real-money online poker on PlayNow.com since February 2011, according to Gaming Intelligence, which reported the launch. PlayNow started in 2004 as an online lottery site and added casino games in 2010, a year before poker.

At launch, PlayNow’s poker tables were linked with Loto-Québec’s Espacejeux, so B.C. players shared games with players in Quebec, Gaming Intelligence reported. Manitoba joined PlayNow through a partnership with its provincial lottery in 2013. Today, PlayNow’s poker pages describe the site only as “available exclusively to players located in BC” and don’t say which other provinces sit at the same tables.

Who can play PlayNow poker?

You must be 19 or older, a B.C. resident and physically located in British Columbia, according to PlayNow’s help page. When you register, PlayNow checks your details electronically against a credit bureau, which “verifies both age and residency.”

The location rule is strict. PlayNow says purchases “can only occur while the player is physically located in British Columbia,” because BCLC is authorized to offer its games only inside the province. If you travel to Alberta or Washington state, you can’t play from there, even with a B.C. account.

Which games and formats does PlayNow offer?

PlayNow lists eight poker variants in its poker FAQ: Texas Hold’em, Six Plus Hold’em, Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi Lo, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw and 5 Card Draw 7-Ace. Six Plus Hold’em, also called short deck, removes the 2s through 5s from the deck.

You can play:

  • Cash games, including anonymous tables, where opponents see no screen names.
  • Slot & Go tournaments, with buy-ins from $1 to $25.
  • Challenge Sit & Gos and scheduled tournaments.

You play on a Windows client or the PlayNow Poker app for Android, and the download page also links to Mac and iOS versions. Players earn Poker Player Experience Points (PXP). PlayNow’s FAQ says its rake structure did not change when it moved to its current software, but the FAQ doesn’t list the rates.

How do deposits and withdrawals work on PlayNow?

The minimum deposit is $5, and every withdrawal goes to your bank account by electronic funds transfer, according to PlayNow’s help page. These are the main cashier rules PlayNow publishes:

Could PlayNow’s player pool change?

It could, depending on a Supreme Court of Canada ruling that hasn’t been issued yet. The court heard Atlantic Lottery Corporation et al. v. Attorney General of Ontario on Oct. 7, 2026, and reserved judgment, according to its case docket. BCLC, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, Atlantic Lottery and Loto-Québec are the appellants.

The case comes from Ontario’s plan to let its licensed sites pool players with other countries. The Ontario Court of Appeal ruled in November 2025 that, under certain conditions, this would not break the Criminal Code, according to Pokerfuse, and BCLC and other provincial lotteries appealed in December 2025. The ruling could shape how far shared player pools can go in Canada.

Where to play from British Columbia

If you want a provincially run site, PlayNow is the only option in British Columbia. Many players in the province also play at international rooms that accept Canadians. These rooms are not licensed by BCLC or the province, so B.C. tools such as Game Break don’t cover them. Check the rules where you live, and see our online poker in Canada guide for how each province works.

Among our partner rooms that accept Canadian players, Betsson Poker pays 40% rakeback through us and ACR Poker pays 35%. Most international rooms play in US dollars, so the USD/CAD rate affects what you deposit and cash out. Many Canadians fund these accounts with crypto; see our list of poker sites that accept Bitcoin and our ranking of the best online poker sites. Rakeback through us is paid monthly: sign up through the button on the room review and message us on Telegram.
