How online poker is regulated in Latvia
Licensed operators only. Online gambling in Latvia is open only to operators with a Latvian licence. Since April 1, 2026, the Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Inspection (IAUI) has been part of the State Revenue Service (VID), which handles licensing and supervision.
A blacklist. Unlicensed gambling sites go on a public blacklist, and internet providers must block them. A room on that list may not open from Latvia.
Players can be fined. Amendments approved by the parliament in 2019 introduced fines for players who use unlicensed sites, reported at up to €350 per case. Check the current Gambling and Lotteries Law before you play.
International rooms
Several of our partner rooms accept players from Latvia. They’re international, work under their own licences and are not licensed in Latvia. Each one checks your country when you sign up, and a room can change which countries it accepts. We update this list when that happens.
Deposits and withdrawals
Crypto such as Bitcoin or USDT is the most common way to deposit at international rooms, and several also take cards and e-wallets. Many tables play in euros, so you often won’t need a conversion. Before you send crypto, check the network in the room’s cashier and start with a small amount. See our guide to Bitcoin poker sites.
Taxes
Tax rules for gambling winnings depend on the game and on who pays them. Ask the State Revenue Service (VID) or a tax adviser how winnings from international rooms apply to you.
Before you play
Set a monthly budget and stick to it. If gambling stops being fun, take a break.
