How did Brock Wilson win PGT Sprint Event #2?

Brock Wilson won by erasing Martin Zamani’s big heads-up lead with two double-ups and then taking over. Jamie Dwan started the seven-handed final table as the chip leader, and Wilson was among the shorter stacks, according to the PokerGO Tour.

Wilson doubled through Andrew Lichtenberger early and later knocked him out in sixth. Zamani then took control. With five left, he got all in from the button, Dwan moved all in over the top from the small blind, and Zamani’s king-queen held against Dwan’s ace-king. Wilson stayed alive by doubling through Zamani with pocket jacks against pocket threes, but Zamani went on to eliminate Joe McKeehen in fourth with a set of tens on the turn and Jesse Lonis in third.

Zamani reached heads-up with more than a 5-to-1 chip lead, according to Card Player. Wilson erased it with two double-ups and then took the lead. On the final hand, Zamani moved all in from the button with A♠3♠ and Wilson called with A♣K♠. The board ran K♣9♥8♣10♥Q♦, and Wilson’s pair of kings held.

According to the PokerGO Tour, it was Zamani’s first runner-up finish in a live tournament and his first heads-up loss in live play.

What it means for players in the US

The PGT Sprint is a live series in Las Vegas, so you play it in person at the PokerGO Studio. If you want to play tournaments online from home, the options depend on your state. Only a few states license online poker: Nevada, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia. Some, such as Washington, prohibit online gambling. Our guide to online poker in the USA explains the rules state by state, and if you live where Wilson grew up, see our page on online poker in New York for real money.

International rooms such as ACR Poker accept players from most states. They are not licensed by any US state, so state consumer protections don’t apply. ACR doesn’t accept players from Washington, Kentucky, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada or New Jersey. Most US players deposit with crypto, such as Bitcoin, because banks often block card payments to poker sites.
