Where to play live poker in Texas
Texas has no commercial casinos, so live poker runs in two kinds of places: private card clubs and one tribal casino.
| Area | Card clubs and casino (city) |
|---|---|
| Austin and Central Texas | Texas Card House (Austin) · The Lodge Card Club (Round Rock) |
| Houston | Texas Card House (Houston and Spring) · Champions Club · Prime Social Poker Club |
| Dallas–Fort Worth | Texas Card House (Dallas) · Palace Poker Room (Grand Prairie) · ACE Poker Club (Fort Worth) |
| San Antonio and South Texas | The Lodge Card Club (San Antonio) · Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino (Eagle Pass, tribal) |
How the card clubs work. They charge membership and hourly seat fees instead of taking rake, to fit the private-game defense of the Penal Code. It is a legal gray area: Dallas tried to shut down Texas Card House, an appeals court sided with the club in August 2024, and the Texas Supreme Court declined to review the case in 2025, which left the question open statewide. Check that clubs are allowed in your city.
The only casino poker room. Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, run by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe in Eagle Pass, on the Mexican border, has the state’s only casino poker room.
Clubs open and close, and hours and games change. Check with the club before you go, including the minimum age.
How online poker works in Texas
No state-licensed site. Texas has some of the strictest gambling laws in the country: no commercial casinos, and live poker survives in membership card clubs that operate in a legal gray area. The legislature has never passed a law to license online poker, and there is no bill with real chances in the current session.
What the law says about players. Chapter 47 of the Texas Penal Code makes betting on card games a class C misdemeanor, punished by a fine only. Its defense for private games applies only when the game is in a private place, nobody takes a cut and everyone has the same chance of winning, so it does not cover poker sites, which charge rake. There is no record of a Texas player being prosecuted for playing online poker. Federal law (UIGEA, 2006) restricts how banks process gambling payments and does not criminalize players either.
What that means for you. International rooms that accept Texas players are not licensed by the state, so Texas consumer protections do not apply. Choose rooms with a long track record and keep only what you are playing with on the site. See the overview for the whole country in our US online poker guide.

Deposits and withdrawals from Texas
US banks often block card payments to gambling sites, so crypto is the most reliable way to move money in and out of international rooms:
- Buy Bitcoin or USDT on an exchange that accepts Texas residents.
- Copy the deposit address from the room’s cashier and send it, checking the network the cashier indicates.
- To cash out, request a crypto withdrawal and sell on the exchange. Crypto payouts usually arrive within hours.
Start with a small test amount. With USDT, your balance follows the dollar instead of moving with the Bitcoin price. The step by step is in how to deposit and withdraw Bitcoin at poker sites.
Taxes
Texas has no state income tax, but gambling winnings are taxable income under federal law. Keep records of your deposits, withdrawals and results, and talk to a tax professional about your situation.
