Best poker sites for beginners (2026)

What matters when you start out: low stakes, free tournaments, a small first deposit and tables where regulars can't track you with HUDs. We checked each point on the rooms' official pages and ranked them, then by the rakeback from our deal.

What each room offers beginners

The lowest cash game stake, freerolls, a no-deposit bonus, the minimum deposit and the HUD rule at each room. One point for each one that helps a new player; ties go to the room with more rakeback from our deal.

Checked on October 21, 2026 on each room's official pages; where a room doesn't publish an item, the table says so. Stakes go by the big blind: NL2 is $0.01/$0.02. Bonuses and freerolls change often, so read the terms in the room before you play.

How we rank

One point for each item that helps a new player: tables at NL2 or lower, freerolls with no deposit, a no-deposit bonus, a first deposit of 10 dollars or euros or less, and HUDs banned or limited to the room’s own. Half a point when it comes with conditions, such as freerolls tied to rake or prizes in the room’s own chips. Ties go to the room with more rakeback from our deal, then to the higher RPW rating.

Start small

Begin at the lowest stake and play few tables at once. In cash games you can leave at any time; tournaments take longer but cost a fixed amount. Read our guide to poker bankroll before your first deposit.

Free play first

Freerolls cost nothing to enter and pay real prizes, usually small ones. They are a good way to learn the software before you deposit. Some rooms also have play money tables.

Play safe

Set a monthly budget, deposit only what you can afford to lose and take breaks. Only play if you are 18 or older, or 21 where the law says so.

Frequently asked questions

Which poker site is best for beginners?

Top of our ranking: UP Poker, with the most points for new players among the 15 rooms we compare. The table on this page shows each room's lowest stake, freerolls, bonus, minimum deposit and HUD rule.

Can I play poker online without depositing?

Yes, in freerolls: free tournaments with real prizes that several rooms run every day. Some rooms also give a small bonus or free chips when you sign up. See our guide to freerolls.

What stake should a beginner start at?

At the lowest one, such as NL2 ($0.01/$0.02), with a bankroll of at least 20 to 30 buy-ins. Move up only when you win steadily. Our bankroll calculator shows how much you need.

Why does a HUD ban help beginners?

A HUD shows statistics on how each opponent plays. Where third-party HUDs are banned, regulars can't build data on you, and the game is more even.

Is rakeback worth it for beginners?

Yes. At low stakes the rake takes a big share of each pot, and rakeback returns part of it every month, even while you are still learning.
